Ericcson Property

The large parcel added onto the northeastern end of the main campus is what we are calling the Ericcson Property.  Today it is mainly made up of Green Hall and LaHaye Student Union (both part of Liberty University and collectively known as North Campus); Liberty Christian Academy (LCA); and Thomas Road Baptist Church (TRBC). (Both LCA and TRBC are affiliated with Liberty.)  This parcel orginally held a large industrial plant that was owned by the Ericcson Company. In the early 2000s, Ericcson was selling the plant, and Thomas Road Baptist Church wanted to buy it.  TRBC had big plans to move their entire church operations there, as well as house LCA and several Liberty departments.  A 2002 article in the Liberty Champion announced that TRBC bought the Ericsson property and described the proposed moving plans.  A 2003 Champion article with the headline "TRBC Did Not Purchase Ericsson," explained that Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. had purchased the property instead and was planning to donate it to TRBC.  A 2004 article published over a year later stated that Hobby Lobby had officially donated the property to TRBC, even though TRBC had already started renovations.  The part used by Liberty was named Green Hall in honor of David Green, the owner of Hobby Lobby.

The facility stayed in the hands of TRBC and Liberty University and was renovated to make an interconnected facility housing all church operations, LCA, and several academic and administrative departments for Liberty, as well as the Tower Theatre, Tilley Student Center, and LaHaye Student Union.
